My work in Fife is focussing on a number of key areas. I have been chaplain to East Fife Girls and Women’s Football Club since January 2023. This involves supporting the team at home matches and going to training sessions during the week. The team was just relegated from the premiership so we will be trying to top the championship league next season. My role is to be available for any team or staff members who would like to talk about any life issues and to help anyone who is having a difficult time. We have quite a lot of younger players coming up into the first team so I may be able to support them and help them find their feet (no pun intended)! The idea is just to maintain a supportive presence – training sessions for me involves a lot of gathering up the footballs and chatting to team members whenever I get an opportunity.
I am also able to fulfil a chaplaincy role through my work with K2 as a schools’ development worker in NE Fife. I visit one local school every week to support one of the classes there and hope to develop prayer spaces in some of the schools in the next school year.
Prior to coming up to Scotland I felt that I was going to be starting some sort of meeting in Glenrothes. It is unclear as to what to call this, but we are holding our first meeting there this month and I hope that together we will discern how to proceed as we worship, pray and listen to what God is saying. This may evolve either into an AOG church plant or a local house of prayer. I am grateful for the support of people at Kings Church Beverley as I move forward with this and it is good that several church leaders from both Yorkshire and Scotland will be joining us to start things off on the 18th June.
